Here is a "musical statement" I created while working on a homework assignment. The assignment was to experiment with FM synthesis by building some timbres and submitting them along with a musical statement.

Homebrew soundscape
For this assignment, I gathered a few recordings and created a short musical statement by manipulating the sounds in ChucK. The rhythmic variation is created with first-order Markov Chains, and the string-like sounds are created by feeding a recording into a Karplus Strong algorithm.

Determinism
Music created from markov chains and FM synthesis.
The lead instrument, as well as the pitched kick-like sound, are both synthesized using FM synthesis. Much of the pitch and rhythm content is generated using controlled randomness with first and second-order Markov chains.

Algorithmic music with sounds synthesized from scratch and arrangements determined by controlled randomness.
All of the sounds were synthesized using basic techniques including FM synthesis and noise filtering.

Jen is primarily responsible for the ambient-like sections and I am primarily responsible for the rhythmic parts. We worked from the same pool of original sounds.
